Along with its mission to help other developing countries establish their own science and technology parks and incubators, Isfahan Regional Center for Technology Incubator and Science Park development (IRIS), under the auspices of UNESCO renewed its MOU with ECO Science Foundation at the sideline of the fifth meeting of ECOSF Board of Trustees. The meeting was held in Isfahan, Iran on the 14th of February 2023. The meeting, which was organized at Isfahan Chamber of Commerce, was in hybrid mood and it was attended by high ranking officials from the member countries.
Dr. Zolfigol, Iran’s minister of Science, Research and Technology, delivered the opening speech as the chairman of the meeting. He continued by stating that Iran has had extensive cooperation with Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) during the activity of ECO Scientific Foundation, and hosting two meetings of the Board of Trustees of ECO Science Foundation during the past four years is evidence of Iran's attention to the importance of such cooperation.
The report of the activities of ECOSF was presented by the team and the future plans were introduced to the meeting. Science and Technology Park development in ECO countries was introduced to be among the priori activities of ECOSF.
IRIS has had MOU with ECOSF since 2017 and this UNESCO center can directly help achieve the intended goals of promoting Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the ECO region. Therefore, in line with the meeting schedule, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between ECOSF and IRIS was renewed for further collaboration. This agreement was renewed upon the parties' mutual consent for 4 years.
Isfahan Science & Technology Town (ISTT) is host to this UNESCO Center. IRIS uses all the potentials and capabilities of ISTT to promote its mission and to help other developing countries with their science park initiatives.
